  • It isn’t bookmarking. Bookmarks are a separate list you have to maintain and revisit. Suspension is invisible until you need the tab again.

Typical numbers: a simple article might hold 50–100 MB; a Gmail or Notion tab can hold 300–500 MB or more. With 40–60 open tabs, Safari routinely accounts for several gigabytes of memory. On an 8 GB or 16 GB Mac, that’s when you see pressure turn yellow, swap usage climb, and the “This webpage is using significant memory” banner appear.

Option 1: Close tabs manually. Free and effective, but you lose your workspace — and the fear of losing something important is why you have 60 tabs in the first place.
